For the second year in a row, Birštonas resort has been introduced to the Finnish tourism market
The International Tourism Fair "Matka" attracts more than 56,000 visitors annually, including almost 15,000 travel industry professionals.
For the second year in a row after the pandemic, Birštonas resort was also presented at this fair. Unlike last year, this time there were questions about spas and treatment options in Lithuania and our resort. However, the majority of visitors were most interested in the opportunities for nature and cultural exploration, and the majority of those who visited the Lithuanian stand mentioned that they had visited Lithuania 5-6 years ago or more.
The Lithuanian stand and presentation were organized by the Public Institution Keliauk Lietuvoje. At the Lithuanian stand, it was possible to find recreation opportunities in Vilnius, Palanga, Klaipėda and various hotels. As Rūta Kapačinskaitė, Director of the Birštonas Tourism Information Centre, said: “I am glad that in addition to the Birštonas Tourism Information Centre, three tourism facilities were also working at the Lithuanian stand: “Eglės Sanatorija”, spa hotel “Vytautas mineral SPA” and “Natur Camp in Birštonas. This shows that the Finnish market is important for our resort”.
During the exhibition, the Lithuanian stand was visited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Finland, Edvilas Raudonikis, and his team.
According to a study conducted by "Travel Lithuania" in 2024, Finns usually choose their travel destinations based on recommendations from family members or friends, searching for information on the most popular search engines, such as Google, Bing, etc. A significant part of traveling Finnish tourists choose their travel destination based on podcasts, and their choice is also determined by travel agency offers and packages that include flight and accommodation services. Gastronomic tourism, cognitive and cultural tourism, small and unique towns, and beaches are extremely important to Finns.
Finland has a population of 5,608,235, more than 57 percent are travelers. Most are single or married. The travel basket is allocated from 850 to 2,500 euros. More than half of Finns who visited the Birštonas resort for an overnight stay in 2024 chose camping services, a third of those who arrived chose hotels.
The Finnish tourism market has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels in 2023, but is one of the fastest growing.
