The Birštonas resort charms guests with its magnificent nature and the winding loops of the Nemunas River. Those who enjoy active recreation are invited to try out the new Sun Route, which will allow you to admire magical evenings while visiting the places the locals love, and to take an amazing selfie as the sun goes down!

Start this journey at the dock on the Birštonas pond (1), located on Karalienės Barboros alėja next to Vytautas Mineral Spa. Not only can you find a dock on pond II – you can also find one next to the resort’s pond III on the edge of Žvėrinčius Forest. Continue the journey by taking the Žvėrinčius Forest path towards the bank of the Nemunas. Once you leave Žvėrinčius Forest, you will find an observation point and a scenic viewer (2) where you will be able to get a closer look at the Nemunas and the flora and fauna, with the surrounding nature framing a splendid view of the sunset. After taking in the scenery, continue your journey along the Dr A. S. Zenkevičius Bank. Here, at the wharf on the bank of the Nemunas, you will find pleasure boats and a small ferry (3) that you can take to the other side of the Nemunas to admire the Birštonas panorama in the evening, or to explore the beautiful loops of the Nemunas. Waiting for you right nearby after your time on the water will be Vytautas Hill (4) – one of the best known and highest mounds in Lithuania. Once you conquer the steps that will take you up the 40-metre slope, you will be able to catch your breath in the nicely maintained area up top. From there, you will be rewarded with a stunning view of Birštonas and the Nemunas loop. The view is beautiful year-round, so climbing Vytautas Hill has become a ritual among guests to Birštonas. Plus, it is the most popular place to take pictures in the entire resort, since the view that you get when the sun sets is simply breath-taking. Once you come down from Vytautas Hill, another challenge awaits: the tallest observation tower in Lithuania (5)! You can find it at Bokšto al. 25. The tower’s observation deck is at a height of 45 metres, and the tower itself is 55 metres tall. Visitors who climb to the top can understand the beauty and uniqueness of the surroundings. The Nemunas flows just 240 metres away, with an open field to the south-east and a forest nearby. The Birštonas panorama and Nemunas Valley are visible, and individual farms (now part of the town of Birštonas) extend 900 metres away. Pictures of the sunset with these views will be the most beautiful ones you have on your mobile phone! Don’t worry – that’s not all! You still have the last stop waiting for you nearby – the Škėvonys escarpment (6) (on Prienų g., behind the Birštono Seklytėlė restaurant). As you walk along the educational trail from the Birštono Seklytėlė restaurant or the Royal Spa Residence hotel, don’t just look into the distance – look where you’re stepping as well. You might spot some interesting plants – the star gentian, which is listed in the Lithuanian Red Book, blooms here from June to September. The Škėvonys escarpment is one of the best known rock outcrops of the Quaternary period on the slopes of the Nemunas Valley. It is also included in the list of the most valuable geological sites in north-western Europe. More than half a kilometre long and as much as 33 metres high, the escarpment is a section of the unique Škėvonys crest featuring distinct layers of deposits from the last two ice ages and the interglacial period, and will make the perfect setting for your last picture on the Sun Route.
