Pelėšiškės mound

The mound is of the quay type, located on a promontory formed by the Nemunas and a small nameless stream, protected from the highlands by ramparts and ditches. The territory of the mound is covered with long-term plows, richly excavated with pits, the slopes are affected by erosion. Currently, the area is soiled, overgrown with trees and shrubs. The site is an irregular quadrangular embankment, approximately 21 m long and 30 m wide, 0.5-1.4 m high. The embankment was excavated with pits, dug to the side of the site, its ends eroded and damaged by earthworks, in places unnoticed. New foci of erosion can be seen from the sides of the Nemunas and the nameless stream. Although the cultural layer of the mound was plowed, in 2015. Archaeological excavations have found small fragments of pottery in a dark layer of earth.

The mound dates back to the 1st thousand. after Kr. - II thousand. pr.
