St. Apostle James Church in Punia

The Church of St. James the Apostle stands in the village of Punia, at the confluence of the Punelė and Nemunas rivers.
The church was built in 1863, instead of the old one that burned down six years ago. Its architecture is a combination of baroque and classicism. The first church in Punia was built in 1425, it is believed that the tower-shaped brick chapel, dedicated in 1831, is now standing there. in memory of the participants of the uprising. It is said that it was Vytautas the Great who ordered the church to be built at that time, so his memory is respected to this day - a portrait of this prince hangs in the church.
